Inverted Stump Tables
Flat Cut - style
w/ Amorphic shapes
Inverted stump tables ( versus a root table ) are cut thru the roots during preparation, to a flat wooden top. This type of cut removes most of the roots and exposes beautiful wood graining. It also removes costs associated with the detailing involved with roots yet, leaves another beautiful piece of God's work, the burl of wood. Burls or hollows ( see one bottom of this page) are exposed in the flat cut top. Inverted stump tables range in cost from about $1,600 for a small coffee table ( less glass ) to $2,700 for a dining table capable of supporting up to a 60 inch glass top.

Figured wood graining of burls is exposed during the cutting process of the plain stump. Sometimes I encounter hollow stumps such as the one shown below. These hollow stumps add their own distinct uniqueness.
